Microsoft 365 Business Premium

Business Standard plus device management, advanced threat protection and information protection.

Business Premium is Business Standard with the security and device management layer added. For most organisations under 300 seats it is the plan that removes the need to buy a separate endpoint management tool, a separate email security product and a separate mobile device policy engine.

The additions that matter operationally are Intune for device enrolment and policy, Defender for Office 365 for attachment and link protection, Entra ID Premium P1 for conditional access, and Azure Information Protection for document labelling and encryption.

The per-seat difference over Business Standard is usually recovered quickly once you account for the point products it replaces — and for the incidents that conditional access prevents.

Frequently asked questions

Does Business Premium replace our separate antivirus?
For most Windows estates, Defender for Endpoint Plan 1 combined with Intune policy replaces a traditional third-party antivirus product. Whether it also replaces a specialist EDR depends on your compliance obligations - we assess that as part of a security review rather than assuming it.
Can we mix Business Standard and Business Premium in one tenant?
Yes, and it is often the cost-effective approach: Premium for staff who handle sensitive data or use unmanaged devices, Standard for the rest. The combined total still counts against the 300-seat cap.
