Office LTSC

Office LTSC, for systems that must not change

A perpetual, device-bound release that receives security fixes but no feature updates. It exists for a specific set of situations, and is over-bought for everything else.

Office LTSC is the long-term servicing release: a fixed, revalidation-friendly baseline for process control terminals, air-gapped networks, regulated systems and machines with no reliable internet connection.

It is deliberately not the general-purpose choice. LTSC does not include the cloud services, does not receive new capabilities, and is licensed per device rather than per user. For a typical knowledge worker, a Microsoft 365 subscription is both cheaper across the replacement cycle and better supported. We will tell you if that is your situation.

Where LTSC is genuinely the right answer

  • Manufacturing and process control terminals where any software change requires revalidation
  • Air-gapped or restricted networks with no path to Microsoft's services
  • Regulated environments with a documented, frozen software baseline
  • Shared devices with no named user to attach a subscription to
  • Machines with no reliable internet connection for activation and updates

What you give up

  • No feature updates for the life of the release
  • No cloud services — no OneDrive, no Teams, no hosted email
  • Licensed per device, so a user with two machines needs two licences
  • No upgrade path to a newer release without purchasing it again

Frequently asked questions

Can you transfer our existing Microsoft tenant to your billing?
Yes. Moving the billing relationship to a Cloud Solution Provider is an administrative change. Your tenant, data, configuration and users are unaffected, and there is no downtime.
Do you supply both subscription and perpetual Microsoft licensing?
Yes. Subscriptions through CSP, and perpetual licences such as Windows Server, SQL Server and Office LTSC through volume licensing. We will price both where both are viable for your scenario.
Can seat counts be reduced mid-term?
Additions can be made at any time. Reductions take effect at the subscription anniversary, which is why the renewal date is the point at which a genuine review is worth doing.
